These terms cover buying and using digital products from truthbehindbars.com. By buying or downloading one, you agree to them. They're short, and written in plain English.
Who you're buying from
Truth Behind Bars is an independent publisher of documentary true-crime products, operated from Pakistan and selling to readers worldwide.
Gumroad is the merchant of record. Gumroad, Inc. sells the product to you on our behalf, processes your payment, handles any sales tax or VAT, and issues your receipt. Your purchase is also covered by Gumroad's own terms at checkout. We never see or store your card details.
What you're buying
Digital products delivered as downloadable files, usually PDF. Each product is described on the page where it's sold. Nothing physical is shipped.
Prices are shown in US dollars. Depending on where you live, sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout. Gumroad calculates and collects it.
Delivery
Your download is available the moment payment goes through, on the checkout confirmation screen. Gumroad also emails you a receipt with a link to your download, so you can come back to it later.
If a download fails, a link stops working, or the email doesn't arrive, contact [email protected] and we'll send you the file directly.
Updated editions
When we publish a corrected or updated edition of a product you bought, you get it at no extra cost, through the same Gumroad download.
What you may do with what you buy
Buying a product gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it. You may:
- Read it on any device you own
- Print a copy for your own use
- Keep it indefinitely
You may not:
- Resell, sublicense, or otherwise distribute it
- Upload it to file-sharing sites or public repositories
- Reproduce substantial parts of it in your own published work without permission
- Remove or alter any attribution or copyright notice
Short quotations for review, commentary, teaching or research are fine, with attribution.
Subject matter
Our products document real crimes, executions and deaths in custody. Graphic description is deliberately left out, but the subject matter is serious and the products are written for adult readers.
Intellectual property
All content remains the property of Truth Behind Bars. Historical facts aren't owned by anyone, but the writing, structure, analysis, graphics and design of these products are original work and protected by copyright.
Accuracy
Our products are researched against court records, public inquiry reports, government publications and contemporaneous reporting, and we take accuracy seriously. Where sources disagree, we say so in the text rather than picking whichever version reads better.
That said, these are works of documentary writing, not legal, professional or academic advice. Historical records are sometimes incomplete or contested. If you spot an error, tell us and we'll correct it in the next edition.
Refunds
Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms. The short version: 30 days, no questions asked.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim relating to a product is limited to the amount you paid for it. We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
Nothing here removes any statutory rights you have as a consumer where you live.
Availability
We aim to keep the site and downloads available at all times, but can't guarantee uninterrupted access. If a technical problem stops you receiving something you paid for, we'll fix it or refund you.
Changes
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your purchase is the one published here at the time you bought, and the date at the top shows when it last changed.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan. This doesn't affect any consumer protection rights you hold in your own country.
